The sunlight burns lines upon my glowing face.
The trees are full of yellow-green,
taking in the color of sunbeam.
It rained here once before, but puddles
were swallowed by a thirsty fire
that I inhale with passionate desire.
Like a withered plant slurps water,
my skin, parched for flame and heat,
gulps a sun growing hotter.
I never knew how strong the desert called to me.
But then, my bloodline trickles sand and stone,
arid plains that stretch orange and brown
…into the unknown.
