If you knew you were just waiting
for another to walk in the door,
why did you ask me to stay?
I ran from you once, long ago,
assured of myself and of you
that we were not ready.
And yet you looked from across
the moonlight, beaming from
the window, and implored
me to give you a chance, the
opportunity, because your
love was true.
But why?
No sooner does the moon know
why it can never catch up
with the sun,
so determined to fly across
continents at breakneck
speed, than I
could ever know what thoughts
flitted across your mind in
that small moment
when the sun
betrayed the moon…
Great poem, so atmospheric! 🙂
